Faces of the 10 secessionists arrested in Nigeria.

They were arrested on Friday, January 5, 2018 while holding a meeting at a hotel in Abuja.

Professor Augustine Awasum, (veterinary doctor at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, northern Nigeria) is vice-president of the National Assembly of Ambazonia. Last October he called for the release of all students, teachers and other members of society in prison as part of the Anglophone crisis. According to this professor, “the minimum condition to guarantee peace, progress and significant development is to restore the October 1961 Constitution which guarantees a true federalism in which the Anglophone and Francophone regions are equal partners”. He is of American nationality. Prof Augustine Awasum (c) Archives

Dr. Cornelius Kwanga is the Head of Department of Economy in the Sisiku Government. He is a teacher at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina, Nigeria. This activist is one of the founders of Ambazonia. “Every time our people rose to protest against poor living conditions, the only response from the Yaoundé Administration was excessive brutality,” he said after the lawyers’ strike in Bamenda.

He has always initiated boycotts in the South-West and North-West regions of festivities marking the National Unity Day (May 20) in Cameroon.

“First of all, we want to inform the world that the Southern Cameroon National Council has called for a full boycott of the May 20 celebrations in the Republic of Cameroon and all the festivities that will follow in their region,” he said in a statement. Trade Unionist Tassang Wilfred (Executive Secretary of the Cameroon Teachers’ Trade Union, CATTU) holds the National Education portfolio in the government of Ambazonia. A member of the Anglophone Civil Society Consortium, Wilfred Tassang fled to Nigeria the day after the teachers’ strike in the northwestern and southwestern regions.

The initiator of the dead cities in both regions, Me Eyambe Elias Elango, is a member of the coordination secretariat of Ambazonia. On August 14, 2017, on behalf of the Anglophone Consortium, he signed a communiqué announcing the beginning of the dead city.

“No vehicles and no motorbikes will be seen in our streets; not even those held by citizens of The Republic of Cameroon residing on our lands. To the extent that our struggle is not against them, we urge them, however, to scrupulously respect the guidelines set out in this communiqué and the other instruments published by the Governing Council. People will stay home from 6 pm until 6 am to avoid being in unpleasant situations, “said the lawyer.
